To the Book:

The Irish Terrier originates from Ireland, as his name tells. He is counted among the rough-coated dogs, and this nature of his coat is quite advantageous in the rough climate of the Green Island. This dog has never been a smart dog and has never been bred in great quantities. Thank Heavens, he is still considered to be among the soundest dog breeds of the present time. But it seems to be his unique character that is adopted as a trademark for this breed, and that over the years has always maintained a permanent number of fanciers. If you have got to know him for once, you always will keep true to him.

The authors explain this breed to the interested reader on the basis of their profound knowledge of the race, an accurate research and a comprehensive presentation. This book will help to turn an interested person to be an informed lover of this breed. It is intended to promote the development of the Irish Terrier and to make breeders quite conscious of their responsibility for the breed. The authors present hints and advice regarding all essential questions, as e.g. selection of breeder, purchase, raising, education and care. Particular importance is put on the description of the body and the characteristic features as stipulated by the Standards of the Breed. The reason is that the Irish Terrier should be preserved as experts long him to be: a unique breed that already Jack London spoke of as "A dog made of gold, through and through!"
