Short description of the breeders, the beginning of breeding and the principles of breeding of the kennel "von der Emsmuehle". It will become evident that with breeding only the best will be just good enough. Considering this the kennel "von der Emsmuehle" could attain its numerous Championships and winning titles throughout Europe. Especially the imported male "Maghill of Ben's Heir" has contributed his part in achieving such a high level as shown in nineties.

Each breed has its origin. That of the Irish Terriers is in Ireland, as the name already presumes. In HISTORY the development of the breed will be described beginning in 1870 up to the early years of the 19th century.

The Standards of a Breed are to be understood a quite clear and comprehensive description of the characteristic the body and the character a perfect dog of that breed should show. As per the rules of the FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale), the head organisation of the internationally acknowledged dog organisations, the standards are defined by the country of origin of a breed. Thus the solely valid Standards for the Irish Terriers are those of the Irish Kennel Club.

Thoughtful breeding is to be understood not as a simple reproduction but an amelioration of the breed. A good breeder has to be and to maintain the strongest critic of his own dogs, if he does not want to have a break down in quality one day. The key to success is controlling the progeny. That is why an engaged breeder has to be present with his progeny successfully for years.

In Germany there are about 14 to 16 international dog shows in general, the VDH Europe Winner, the KfT Club Winner and the VDH German Winner being considered to be most important exhibitions. That is why hereafter the results of these shows are listed in detail; the results of important shows abroad are listed as well, yet in a short form.
